The Bethany College volleyball team dropped their third straight match Monday, as they fell 3-1 to Southwestern College.
The Swedes struggled to find their offensive rhythm as Southwestern defeated Bethany 25-23 in game one.
Bethany responded with a 14-8 lead in game two, but could not hang on as the Moundbuilders of Southwestern College scored five unanswered points to beat the Swedes 25-19 in game two.
The Swedes held an early 8-5 lead in game three, and despite a late run by Southwestern, Bethany held on to grab a 25-21 win.
The Moundbuilders took a 13-11 lead in game four, and extended their lead to 22-18.
Southwestern ultimately won game four 25-21, defeating Bethany 3-1 in the match.
Senior Maria Bujanda and sophomore Bryanna Cool led Bethany with 14 kills each, followed by junior Alexa Gerber with 11.
Freshman Eileen Vlamis tallied 22 assists while Gerber added 21. Gerber totaled 11 digs on the night as junior Ariel Buhr tacked on nine.
Bujanda and senior Danielle Savage combined for one assisted block, and sophomore Chelsea Bothwell added one solo block.
Gerber and senior Kaitlyn Davis each had one service ace in the contest.
"Southwestern did a nice job of running a quick offense or blocks," Swede coach Nathalea Stephenson said. "We just couldn't stop the quicks. We hit well but you have to stop them and we couldn't. We will keep working hard to improve."
The Swedes are now 1-12 in the KCAC, and 5-20 overall.
The squad next hosts McPherson College tonight at 7 p.m.
