TOPEKA, KS, October 31, 2013 -- Kansas feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 or more head, contained 2 million cattle on feed on Oct. 1, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. This inventory was down 10 percent from last year. This is the lowest Oct. 1 inventory since 1996.
Placements during September totaled 390,000 head, up 4 percent from 2012.
Fed cattle marketings for the month of September totaled 355,000 head, up 15 percent from last year.
Other disappearance during September totaled 15,000 head, unchanged from a year ago.
