  • For the second-straight game, Lady Bulldog Basketball made a late surge in the closing minutes and came up just short, as MC lost a 64-55 battle Tuesday to 3-0 Baker University.
Having played just a couple nights ago, Mac started out sluggish allowing the Lady Wildcats to amass a double figure lead in the first seven minutes.
Baker maintained their double-digit advantage through the half and was ahead 13 points heading into the locker room at 37-24.
Both teams had difficulties putting the ball through the hoop, leading to a low scoring first half.
McPherson made just 7-of-26 from the floor, including 1-of-8 from downtown.
Baker also struggled to make shots as 33.3 percent of their 36 attempts fell through.
In the second period, Baker seemed to put things on cruise once they hit a 20-point lead five minutes in. The Lady 'Dogs took full advantage of the lackadaisical approach, pulling back within 13 a few possessions later and then single-digits in the final minutes.
McPherson mounted a comeback attempt that brought the score to 58-49 with just under three to play and got as close as eight but couldn't pull off the upset, losing a tough 64-55 contest.
MC seemed to find some rhythm for most of the second 20, making 12-of-29 field goals but still was unable to make a good percentage of three pointers, cashing in on 2-of-9. They stayed steady from the stripe, making 5-of-7.
The Wildcats played very consistent as they converted on 31.4 percent from the floor and 75 percent from the line.
The Lady Bulldogs posted a 34.5 percentage from the field for the contest with 16-of-41 two-point tries falling and a 3-of-17 showing from deep. They made 70 percent from the charity stripe, draining 14-of-20.
Although Mac pulled in a respectable 39 rebounds, they were outdone by BU who had 51 with 24 offensive boards. MC's TO to assist ratio was a bit off as it sat at 2-to-1 with 18 turnovers.
Leading the pack was Aubrey Barton, as she scored on 50 percent of her 14 field goal attempts and cashed in on 7-of-10 free throws. She also tallied a team high seven rebounds.
Bailey Brown made herself known as she tied Barton in rebounds and scored 15 of her own, making 5-of-9 from the floor with two three balls and three free throws.  Sunny Smart came off the bench to provide nine points on 3-of-9 shooting with two from the stripe.
The team will play their next two games down in Texas as they compete in the Southwestern Assemblies of God University Classic on Friday and Saturday.  The 'Dogs play SAGU Friday at 8 p.m. and Texas Wesleyan University on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Both games will be held in the Sheaffer Center in Waxahachei, Texas.
Page 2 of 2 - The McPherson College Alumni office will be hosting a tailgate party prior to Saturday's game. Festivities start at 11:30 a.m. at 1200 Sycamore St. in Waxahachei.
The Bulldog Pep Rally will be located in the parking lot behind the Garrison Wellness Center under the white tent while the basketball games will be played in the Sheaffer Center off of Highland Avenue.
