Golfers lined up with their carts at the McPherson Country Club Oct. 10 to participate in the first YP MAC and McPherson Country Club 9-Hole Golf Tournament and Social. The two organizations came together to raise funds for a new scholarship, the YP MAC Moving Forward Fund.
Twelve teams of four participated in the nine- hole scramble. The winning team consisted of Jeff Warren, Kent Schmidt and Nic Winsky with a score of 33. The second and third place teams also scored 33, so it came down to a playoff. Second place was Jake Strecker, Phil Walters, Vaughn Burch and Mark Bissel and third was Hal Hoxie, Ziya Gunay, Chris Waterstradt and Chuck Singleton.
Each team included both young professionals and Country Club members which allowed for networking during the golf tournament. Once the golfing came to an end, a social began, giving those that do not golf an opportunity to take part in the event and mingle. Keith Swinehart, president of MCC, and Jackie Christiansen, president of YP MAC, both spoke about their respective organizations and how they aim to help their members and the community at-large. The keynote speaker for the night was Central Christian College President Hal Hoxie. Hal spoke about his time in the Air Force and how doing the right thing and always being professional allowed him to be promoted earlier than usual. He agreed that YP MAC is vital in McPherson County because someday the younger generation will be doing his job and he wants to be sure they are ready.
Prizes were given to the top three teams as well as some individual prizes, such as longest drive, closest to the pin, etc. Nineteen hole sponsors helped make the event possible. Christiansen stated, “The support of our attendees and sponsors made the tournament a huge success. Both YP MAC and MCC have agreed to make it an annual event.”
YP MAC will host a lunch and learn on the Affordable Care Act on Thursday, November 14. McPherson County Extension Agent Jana McKinney will be presenting on the topic. The cost is $10 and RSVPs are required to email@example.com .
