The Mary Wade Strother Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met Oct. 21 at the Mentor Firehouse. Karen Buhler, Assaria, hosted the meeting.
The opening ritual, led by Buhler, Regent, was recited and followed by two verses of the National Anthem and the reading of the Preamble of the Constitution.
Vice Regent Carol Brown, Lindsborg, gave the President General’s report.
The national defense report was given by Sharon Foust, Minneapolis, chair of that committee.
Minutes of the Sept. 16 meeting were read by Recording Secretary Melissa Stuchlik, Lincolnville, and approved by the group.
In the absence of Treasurer Christy Jarrett, Salina, the financial report was given by Buhler, who also reported on the Fall Kansas Daughters of the American Revolution meeting in Junction City in September.
Committee reports were given by Deb Colle, McPherson, schools; Marcia Price, Salina, Indians; Virginia Frederick, Salina, he American Flag and the NSDAR Library; and Carol Brown, Good Citizens and American Heritage.
Foust presented a review of “The Art of Power,” a book written about Thomas Jefferson by Jon Meacham.
Refreshments were served by Frederick and Buhler.
