  • Bishop Brian Maas of the ELCA Nebraska Synod will visit Bethany College Sunday and Monday to participate in the college’s ongoing dialogue about what it means to be a college of the Lutheran church.
    The public is invited to a welcoming reception from at 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Connected Fair Trade, located at 131 N. Main in Lindsborg. Make RSVPs to Campus Pastor Noni Strand by noon Friday strandn@bethanylb.edu or (785) 227-3380, 8340.
    The community is also invited to hear Maas preach during Chapel service at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Burnett Center.
    Maas serves as bishop of the Nebraska Synod, ELCA. A graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University and Yale Divinity School with a certificate of studies from Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg, Maas was ordained in 1992. He served three congregations, including Emmanuel Lutheran in Tekamah, Neb., Immanuel Lutheran in Kansas City, Mo., and First Lutheran Church in Lincoln, Neb. He was elected bishop of the Nebraska Synod in June 2012.
    Maas and his family live in Lincoln, Neb.
    He preached at Bethany’s 2013 Baccalaureate service.
