  • Alyssa "Roe" Montoya, Bay City, Texas, has signed a letter of intent to play softball at Bethany College for the 2014-2015 academic year.
Montoya, a third baseman and utility player, comes to Bethany from Bay City High School, where she has been a three-year varsity starter in addition to earning three-time All-District Academic honors.
Her accolades include All District Newcomer of the Year 2009-2010, All District 1st Team Infielder 2010-2011, All District Defensive Player of the Year 2011-2012, Bay City High School MVP Softball Player of the Year and All-State Softball Class 4A Honorable Mention by the Texas Sportswriters Association 2011-2012.
During her previous high school season, Montoya hit .444 with a .524 on-base percentage, a .694 slugging percentage, 12 runs scored and 16 stolen bases.
In addition, Montoya is a member of the powerlifting team, where she was a Regional Qualifier in 2010-2011, finishing eighth in the 140 pound class division, total weight 625 pounds.
She was a Regional Qualifier again in 2011-2012, finishing third in the 140 pound class division.
Montoya is also a member of National Honor Society, PALS, Leo Club, BCHS Student Council, BCHS Varsity Cheerleading, and was named BCHS Homecoming Queen 2012-2013.
"We are very fortunate and excited to have Alyssa Montoya join our softball program," Swede coach Janice Esses said. "Our coaching staff believes she can make an immediate impact in our program. We look to have Alyssa fill the void at third base when Kelli Traffas graduates after this season. Alyssa will bring power to our lineup. I think Bethany College will allow opportunities for her to continue her involvement in the campus. She will be a great addition to Bethany College and our softball program."
Montoya is the daughter of Willy and Lisa Montoya.
She has a 4.0 grade point average and plans to major in biology. Her sister, Ashley, is a sophomore softball player at Bethany.
