The Bethany College wrestling team showed off to the home crowd Saturday as they hosted their third annual Bethany Swede Open.
The event, which took place in the Smoky Valley High School and Smoky Valley Middle School gyms, featured seven mats and over 300 entries.
The Swedes recorded 24 pins as a team and had a total time of 83:85.
"The level of competition at our home tournament has increased steadily each year," Bethany coach Jacob Marrs said. "Despite that, we still had the best winning percentage we have ever had at a tournament. There is plenty of room for improvement, however, and we must stay the course of maximizing each day and earning our true potential. Also, we are especially thankful to those who helped make the third Swede Open a success."
Junior Aaron Garcia placed first in the 133 division. Garcia won by technical fall over KC DeFilipps of Doane College and defeated Kevin Magdael of Baker University by technical fall.
Garcia then won by a 5-2 decision over Trey Trujillo of the University of Nebraska-Kearny and won by a 7-2 decision over Aspen Kmiec of Midland University.
In the first place match, Garcia defeated Anthony Livengood in a 5-4 decision.
In the 141 division, junior Colt Rogers placed fourth.
Rogers won by fall at 2:05 against Paxton Fowler of Baker University and won by fall against Diego Mata of Midland University at 5:22. He then won by fall at 2:58 against Chauncey Ziemann of Midland University before losing a 7-4 decision to Jason Arreola of York College.
In the consolation semi final, Rogers won by fall at 0:45 against Jacob Luning-Hoshino of Midland University.
Junior Jordon Ward finished fourth in the 165 division.
Ward won by a 6-4 decision over Devin Weber of Wichita State Club and won by major decision 15-6 against Beau Brown of Colby Community College.
Ward then defeated Eric Guetterman of York College 7-4 before losing by fall at 1:57 to Sterling Terry of Midland University.
In the consolation semifinal, Word won 17-15 over Carlos Toledano of Doane College. Ward lost by major decision 15-6 to Zach Skates of Oklahoma City University in the third place match.
Junior Zach Anderson placed first in the 285. Anderson won by fall at 0:53 over Pat Mattfield of Hastings College and won by fall over Harvey James of Oklahoma City University at 1:53.
In the quarter final, Anderson defeated Reid Melani of Doane College 5-2 before winning by fall at 4:18 over John Close of Fort Hays State University unattached in the semifinal.
In the first place match, Anderson won in tiebreaker, TB-1 4-2, over Saia Lotuelelei of York College.
The Swedes next travel to the Dakota Wesleyan Open in Mitchell, South Dakota on Saturday.
