  • Thomas W. Steinbach, 59, of Lansing, Kansas died Thursday, November 14, 2013 at a Kansas City Hospital.
    Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church, with Father Bill McEvoy officiating.
    Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m., Monday, November 18, 2013 at St. Francis De Sales with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.
    Burial will be in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
    Thomas was born December 28, 1953 in Leavenworth, Kansas the son of William O. and Mary K. (Vossen) Steinbach. Thomas graduated from Leavenworth High School.
    He married Laurie A. Honey on May 17, 1974 in Leavenworth, Kansas.
    Thomas was employed for 35 years in the steel industry working at Leavenworth Foundry, Richards and Conover Steel, and Steel Manufacturing until his retirement. Thomas then enjoyed driving the school bus for the Bonner Springs School District for the past seven years.
    Thomas loved fishing, played Santa Claus, was a huge Harley Davidson and NASCAR fan, loved working with handicapped children and driving the bus for them.
    He never turned down anyone for help, and was known as the neighborhood guy who would also be available when neighbors were in need. Tom was never down and loved to kid and harass people in a fun way.
    Thomas loved his dogs, and Lily and Taylor will miss him. He was preceded in death by two of his canine friends Paiton and Dandee.
    He is survived by his wife, Laurie, his mother; Mary K. Steinbach, one sister; Cecilia Rush and her husband David of Leavenworth, two brothers; Michael of Sunrise Beach, Missouri and Richard “Hank” Steinbach of Leavenworth, nieces and nephews; two brother-in-laws; Daniel Honey and his wife Barbara of Leavenworth, and Edward and his wife Sharon Honey of Florida.
    He was preceded in death by one brother-in-law; Donald “Butch” Honey.
    Pallbearers will be Mike Steinbach, Hank Steinbach, David Rush, Butch Watkins, Brad Vossmer and Curtis Sawyer. Honorary pallbearers will be Morgan Watkins and Colin Tompkins.
    Memorials may be directed to the family.
