  • The county commission approved Monday a resolution to close Iron Horse Road between 14th Avenue (Main Street) and the old Highway 81 bypass to public access.
This stretch of road runs through the oil refinery. Kenneth Cook, planning and zoning administrator, said the stretch of road isn't used very much, but closing it to the public would help the refinery.
The commission also discussed what to do about a culvert pipe failure that occurred Sunday on Smoky Valley Road east of Roxbury.
Tom Kramer, public works director, said plans are being made to replace the broken line. The county commissioners will visit the site next week before deciding how to proceed.
In the meantime, a stretch of Smoky Valley Road will be closed.
The commission approved a resolution to assign weight limit postings to five structures and close another due to concerns the structures might suffer damage or collapse under heavy loads.
The next county commission meeting will be at 9 a.m. Monday at the Bank of America building fifth floor conference room, followed by a work session at public works.
