  • She still has two-and-a-half years of high school left, but McPherson High School sophomore Megan Pedersen has already made the decision as to where she is going to play volleyball collegiately.
Pedersen committed to the University of Missouri-Kansas City this past weekend just weeks after the Bullpups wrapped their season in the Class 4A Division I State Volleyball Tournament and a 39-4 record.
Pedersen was second on the team this past season in stuff blocks with 44, hitting percentage (.313) and digs (215). She was third in serve-receive rating (2.36), kills (161) and serving percentage (.97). Her 24 aces left her fourth on the team in that statistic.
For her efforts, Pedersen was named to the All-AVCTL Div. III second team.
“Megs blossomed into an all-around volleyball player,” McPherson coach Christy Doile said. “We looked for her for a block, get us some kills on the right sit, drop back into receive, dig left back, set, attack the second ball when up at the net. She was given multiple responsibilities for a sophomore that has trained predominately as a setter in a 5-1 offense.”
UMKC is currently competing in its first season in the Western Athletic Conference. The ‘Roos are 15-13 overall this season and 9-7 in the WAC.
Their head coach is Christi Posey, who is in her third year at the helm of the UMKC program. Prior to the ‘Roos, Posey spent 11 years as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator at the University of Kansas.
Posey was also head coach at Blue Valley Northwest and Halstead High Schools. While with BVNW, she led the Huskies to the state tournament in each of her eight seasons, winning the state title in 1996 and 1997.
Her teams finished third three times.
