The NAIA has released the first 2013-2014 Wrestling Coaches' Top 20 Poll of the season and the Bethany College wrestling team is ranked tenth in the current poll.
The Swedes previously earned a number 12 ranking in the NAIA Coaches' Preseason Top 20 poll on Oct. 23.
In the current Top 20 Poll, Bethany is ranked tenth with 54 total team points.
The poll was voted on by a panel of head coaches that represent each of the Qualifying Groups.
"It is the first time our program has been ranked in the top 10 nationally," Bethany coach Jacob Marrs said. "We are ranked there for a reason. We have beat some of our NAIA counterparts in open competition. However, the only thing that matters to our group is where we finish at the end of the year. This should give us some confidence in where we can be if we continue to maximize each day's potential as individuals and as a team."
The Swedes are also ranked fourth in the NAIA Central Group Qualifying Poll with 131 team points.
Grand View (Iowa) led the Central Group with 214 team points, followed by Missouri Valley with 178, Baker (Kan.) with 132, Bethany with 131, Oklahoma City with 84, Wayland Baptist (Texas) with 74, William Penn (Iowa) with 31, Benedictine (Kan.) with 30 and Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) with 16.
In addition, ten Bethany wrestlers are ranked in the NAIA Wrestling top individuals.
Junior Aaron Garcia is ranked first in the 133 weight class. Junior Colt Rogers is ranked fourth in the 141 weight class. Following Rogers is freshman Dane Edwards, who is ranked sixth in the 141 weight class.
In the 149 weight class, junior Colby Crank is ranked third, and junior Courtney Strauss is ranked fifth.
