  • On Nov. 19, CASA was given the chance to speak to the residents of Kidron-Bethel Village, a continuing care retirement community in Newton.
Executive Director Eric Litwiller spoke about the need for volunteers to help provide a stable presence to abused and neglected children throughout Harvey and McPherson counties.
Litwiller stressed that cases only require about four hours each month of a volunteer’s time, and volunteers are never asked to take more than two children at once, unless the children are siblings. Volunteers also are welcome to place restrictions on their cases, such as the age of the child, the type of abuse the child may have sustained, etc. Volunteer advocates are free to turn down a case if any aspect of it makes them uncomfortable.
Even with all this, CASA remains in need of more advocates to serve the more than 60 children who are in out-of-home placement between Harvey and McPherson counties. Those who would like to help with this need can contact the 9th District CASA office at EricL@9thcasa.org.
