A look at upcoming events in the McPherson area.

1. Meet Santa
Get free cookies and a photo taken with Santa from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Wendy’s. Free Cookies and Photo with Santa is part of the 2013 holiday promotion offered by the McPherson Chamber of Commerce, McPherson Main Street and the McPherson Convention & Visitors Bureau.

2. Sing some carols
The 35th Annual Community Carol-A-Long takes place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the McPherson Opera House, 219 S. Main St. This is a free come-and-go event. Everyone is welcome to bring their family and friends and drop in for as long as you want to share, enjoy and participate in the special musical spirit of Christmas. Refreshments will be served, and various McPherson area musicians will be on hand.

3. Take a trolley tour
Make a holiday memory aboard the McPherson Trolley. Tours begin at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. at the McPherson Opera House, 219 S. 4. Enjoy the lights
The Sixth Annual Amazing Christmas Light Display Kickoff at Multi-Community Diversified Services will get underway at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Decorate cookies, sip hot cocoa, take pictures with Santa and enjoy the light display set to music. The Christmas Light Display will run every day from 6  to 11 p.m. Friday through Jan. 4.

5. Let the little ones do the shopping
Mini Main will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. This is a holiday shopping experience for children pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Children are invited to do a little Christmas shopping on their own. Gifts are priced at $10 and less, and “helpers” will be present to assist your little ones with their purchases. Free gift wrapping, refreshments, crafts and music will be offered. Santa also will be there. For more information, call McPherson Main Street at 241-7430.
