Mentoring4Success is a program initiated by the governor to connect people with those coming out of prison. Having a mentor significantly increases the chances of men and women to successfully navigate the challenges of life without falling back into a crime lifestyle. Most people use contacts of people they know to find housing, jobs and other basic needs.
Having a mentor gives those coming out of prison a starting point. Without that, many become discouraged and frustrated, and out of a sense of hopelessness, odds are good that they will return to a crime lifestyle.
The training covers the kinds of things a mentor needs to do and not to do in order to maintain a safe and healthy relationship with those being mentored. Kansas Mentoring4Success has 500 active mentoring matches.
