The McPherson Sentinel is participating this year as a sponsor for the 2013 Christmas Fund.
We have set a goal to raise $5,000 between now and Dec. 31 for the fund. The money will go to the McPherson County Community Foundation’s Resource Council.
The council focuses on helping McPherson County residents who experienced temporary financial difficulties with medical costs. This could mean helping pay for a prescription or gas to make it to a medical appointment.
The resource council helps residents year round as money is available. However, it receives the majority of its funds during holiday season. About 200 to 300 people receive help from the council’s programs annually.
“I think it is important,” Sondra Frank, Resource Council treasurer, said. “People fall between the cracks. They don’t quality for DCF. They are doing their best to get by, but an out-of-ordinary expense comes up. We help them get over the hump when an emergency comes up.”
The Sentinel will make a direct donation to the fund through its Wishes Granted ad campaign. Look in future editions of the Sentinel for our community partners in this project.
We also encourage the community to give to this cause during this Christmas season.
Donations are tax deductible.
Checks can be made payable to the McPherson County Community Foundation. Write Christmas Fund in the memo line. Checks can be mailed to 206 S. Main St., McPherson, KS 67460.
