VFW welcomes national president
VFW and Ladies Auxiliary #2715, McPherson, gave National President Armithea “Sissy” Borel a special Aisle of Flags to greet her Dec. 13.
Members of McPherson’s VFW Auxiliary and guests from across the state came to greet her. Commander Tom Sheridan was her escort, and Mayor Tom Brown welcomed her to McPherson.
Borel spoke on her theme this year, “Keeping America’s Veterans and Families Strong.”

DAR has lunch meeting
The Mary Wade Strother Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution met for a luncheon meeting on Dec. 14 at the Salina Country Club with 14 members and six guests, who were Hallie Brewer, Judy Buchman, Dorothy Carmichael, Christine Cosser, Marjorie Musil and Dr. Bill Unsderfer, present.  
Following the meal, the group, led by Regent Karen Buhler of Assaria, recited the DAR Ritual. To end the ritual, the group, accompanied by Dorothy Carmichael, sang “God Bless America.”
Carmichael, accompanied Unsderfer, who sang popular Christmas songs from the 1940s and 1950s.  Both the vocal and piano music were enjoyed by the group.
An abbreviated business meeting was conducted in which Treasurer Christy Jarrett of Salina announced dues at both the state and national level have been paid for 2014. Personal items, calendars, books, cash and a variety of other items were collected, which will be delivered to Topeka’s Colmery-O’Neil VA Medical Center in the near future.
December birthdays were recognized, the Brag Box was passed and the meeting was adjourned.
