  • The McPherson City Commission approved a resolution on Monday annexing the land directly southeast of the U.S. Highway 56/Interstate 135 intersection.
The annexation had been petitioned by the Love’s Travel Stops and Country Stores, who have plans to construct a truck and travel stop in 2014 that will house 66 service stalls, a fast food restaurant and a tire repair shop.
The annexation brings the location under city jurisdiction to allow extension of a city water line. The site already has access to a city water line and sewer, but the truck stop would require larger lines.
The annexation is the first step in establishing the truck stop in the McPherson area.
Love’s also has requested the location be rezoned from McPherson County B-1 Interstate Business to B-6 Interchange Business District. The McPherson Planning Commission and Zoning Board is currently reviewing the zoning case, which is expected to be brought before the city commission at its Jan. 27 meeting.
