It was a very close contest Saturday between the MC women's basketball team and the Lady Coyotes of Kansas Wesleyan and in the end, KWU came out victorious 71-63.
Mac is now 7-11 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
The 'Dogs got up early by as many as six but then a 13-2 run by the Coyotes put KWU in front by five at the 10:10 mark.
Kansas Wesleyan would not trail until the final few seconds of the half. MC went on a 6-0 run in the final couple minutes to take a 33-32 lead into the locker room.
In the second period, the Lady Bulldogs increased their lead to seven by the 14-minute point.
KWU scored 15 of the next 17 points to leapfrog over McPherson and take a six-point advantage. Mac would not give up and tied it at 53-53 with just over five minutes to play.
Kansas Wesleyan quickly got ahead by double figures just a couple minutes later and then coasted to a 71-63 win.
In the game, McPherson shot in 40.4 percent of their 47 field goals and counted 8-of-16 from range and 17-of-25 from the line.
Aubrey Barton closed out the night with a game-high 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting with two from deep and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. She also recorded three blocks as well as a double-double courtesy of her 10 rebounds, five on both ends of the floor.
Sunny Smart knocked down a pair of threes, 4-of-6 foul shots and 1-of-4 from two-point range for her 12 while Bailey Brown tabulated 11 points with six coming from the free throw line.
The 'Dogs are on the road twice this week. First up is a 6 p.m. showdown with the Ottawa University Braves in Ottawa on Thursday.
