  • McPherson High School senior Kyler Jost continues to impress in the pool for the Bullpups, as he picked up two more medals, one gold, at the El Dorado Invitational Saturday.
Jost cut a full second off his state time last year in the 100-yard butterfly at El Dorado Saturday to grab gold for the Pups.
He followed that up with a bronze finish in the 200 freestyle relay alongside Max Howe, Ryen Trost and Eric Gaeddert.
The Bulpups were missing senior Zane Richter, who was at a jazz band event, but still managed to put up an eighth place finish at El Dorado, which included 16 teams in the competition.
“The one thing that I have been able to experience these past two years with smaller teams is that everyone knows how important they are and that each point counts,” MHS coach Bonnie Sue Fisher said. “This year's freshmen, Eric Gaeddert and Max Howe, know that they are needed now, not three years from now as seniors. Gaeddert added points with in the 200 IM and the 100 breast he dropped over 3 seconds to place 4th. Max was a very important part of all three relays and also scored in the 50 free with a personal best time.”
Fisher also pointed out the effort of sophomore Spencer Steinert, whom she said continues to show his character by attacking the longer races in the 200 and the 500 free.
“Last year's improvements were amazing and he again dropped another 5 seconds off of his 500,” Fisher said, “bringing him extremely close to the state qualifying time.”
The Pups have two meets this week. Today, they compete at Hutchinson and then Thursday at Salina.
