  • The Canton-Galva School Board announced it will order 60 Chromebooks as a pilot program during a technology report at its meeting Jan. 13.
The high school will have 40 Chromebooks, and the middle school will have 20 Chromebooks. They will primarily be used for language arts programs.
Bill Seidl, superintendent, and Marvin Westbrook updated the board on the progress of construction at the high school. Seidl said classroom work will begin Feb. 3. After that, entry to the school will be on the north side, and areas will be blocked off to students.
Seidl said the project is on schedule to be completed in time for school to start in August.
Due to construction, the district is planning to release students on May 8, pending unforeseen school closures. High school classes will be canceled on April 7 for a league forensics meet.
Quincy Krase was appointed as the board representative for the scholarship selection committee.
The board also did the following:
    • Approved the sponsorship reimbursement policy, which provides funding for student trips.
    • Approved out-of-district students for the 2013-2014 school year.
    • Approved sick leave forgiveness for an employee.
    • Approved the early retirement of Cathy Vogts at the end of the current school year.
    • Extended Seidl’s contract for one year to include the 2015-2016 school year.
