  • Casey’s General Store is set to build a convenience store in Moundridge after the Moundridge School Board agreed to sell the business a plot of land across from the middle school and high school.
The store would occupy a lot located on Cole Street, near the schools and baseball fields.
Chad Higgins, superintendent of Moundridge School District, said the space sold for $250,000.
Higgins said the meeting in which the board agreed to sell the land was attended by 50 people, 18 of whom spoke. He said while the meeting was cordial, many expressed concerns about the future store’s proximity to schools.
Clark Wedel, principal of the middle school and high school, said most of the concerns were about increased vehicle traffic in the area.
“I think the concern is if you have a Casey’s there, there’ll be more traffic,” Wedel said. “You have students walking home and walking to the baseball fields, so it’s something to think about.”
Wedel said Casey’s and the board are still working on details of the deal, such as fencing and sidewalks. Other considerations are adding crosswalks and lights.
Casey’s could not be contacted as of press time.
