Smoky Valley’s Cassidy Hornbacher has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Bethany College for the 2014-2015 academic year.
Hornbacher comes to Bethany from Smoky Valley High School, where she was a right side hitter on the volleyball team.
She also participated in the pole vault on the track team at Smoky Valley.
"It is great to finally be able to have a student athlete from Smoky Valley High School," Swede coach Nathalea Stephenson said. "Cassie is one of those players that is very coachable and one that will put in the extra time to improve her skills. She understands the importance of the team and that each person has a role to play on the team.”
Stephenson likes the way Hornbacher serves the ball and the way she works on the front row.
“Even though right now she doesn't have a powerful swing, she is smart and will keep the ball in and place it well,” Stephenson said. “We are excited to help her grow as a player, becoming stronger and continuing to improve on her skills."
Hornbacher is the daughter of Marcus and Elizabeth Spencer. She has a 3.0 high school grade point average, and plans to major in criminal justice and psychology.
