It was a rough start to a weekend series for Central Christian College Friday, as they were swept by the College of the Ozarks in a home doubleheader played out at Light Capital Diamond.
The Bobcats unloaded for 10 runs in the final four innings to win 10-2 in game one, while the Tiger offense was held to four hits in a 5-0 game two loss.
CCC (15-20, 1-5 MCAC) actually held a 2-0 lead going into the sixth inning with current MCAC pitcher of the week Zane Howard knocking in a pair of runs.
COFO, however, began unloading in the top of the sixth, as they scored four runs before Central could stop the bleeding. The Bobcats scored two more in the seventh, one in the eighth and three in the ninth.
Robert Hawkins took the loss, working seven innings and giving up six runs on six hits. Only one of the runs was earned. He struck out three and walked one.
Austin Penn and Michael Frick both worked an inning each. Frick worked the ninth, giving up three runs on one hit. Penn gave up his one run off two hits.
No Tiger batter had multiple hits, as Bobcat pitcher Josh Neufeld struck out nine of the 28 CCC hitters he faced in eight innings to get the win.
Game two was scoreless before COFO got on the board in the fifth inning. They added four more in the sixth.
CCC catcher Lee Stoops had two of the Tigers’ four hits. Drew Schiesser and Alex Rodriguez each had one, each.
Howard took the loss, pitching a complete game. He gave up seven runs off five hits, all earned. He struck out four and walked none.
The two teams are back at it again today to close out the series.
The doubleheader begins at noon at Light Capital Diamond, with game one to be a nine-inning contest, followed by a seven-inning game two.
