  • McPherson High School has suspended baseball head coach Steve Williams effective Monday, according to a press release from USD 418 Superintendent Randy Watson.
The move comes amid rumors of discontent between the Bullpup players and the first-year coach.
According to the press release, Williams has been suspended with pay until the McPherson Board of Education has an opportunity to review the situation. Assistant head coach Grant Myers has assumed the head coaching duties until the situation has been investigated.
Watson declined to offer further information until the Board of Education has had time to review the case.
Williams was hired in fall to replace head coach and Eisenhower Elementary School principal Craig Marshall. Williams has 21 years coaching experience and was the long-time coach at Hutchinson High School, with a stop at McPherson College as an assistant to the Bulldog program prior to joining MHS.
The Bullpups split their season opening doubleheader Thursday against Rose Hill. They were on the road at Andale for another doubleheader Monday, with Myers assuming the coaching duties for Williams in that twinbill.
