  • The Moundridge softball team was feisty following last week’s season opening sweep by Chase County.
Unfortunately for Sedgwick, the Cardinals happened to be the first victims on the schedule afterwards.
The Wildcats unloaded for nearly 40 runs between the two games, with Elizabeth Ratzlaff picking up a no-hitter in game two and Moundridge defeated Sedgwick 14-6 and 24-1.
Both games looked to be blow outs, as the Wildcats jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the top of the third inning of game one. Both Chelsey Knight and Michelle Schrag had RBI doubles in the inning.
The Wildcats unloaded for five more in the fourth, but the Cardinals started rallying in the bottom of the frame and scored six runs by the bottom of the sixth.
Moundridge added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh and set the Cardinals down in four batters to solidify the win.
Knight led the Wildcats with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate with three RBIs. Schrag, Brynne Wedel and Brooke Holloway all had two hits.
Emily Knight went the full seven innings, giving up six runs on eight hits. She struck out nine and walked two.
The Wildcats aired out the bats in the first inning of game two, scoring 12 runs in the first inning and 12 more over the next two to put the three inning run-rule into effect.
Sedgwick picked up their only run of the game after Ratzlaff walked a batter, who stole second, then scored after an error at second base.
Baylie Blouin went 3-for-4 at the plate, driving in five runs and scoring four times, herself. Schrag also had three hits, five RBIs and four runs scored.
Ratzlaff went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored to help her own cause.
Ratzlaff went all three innings, though Knight pitched to one batter in the third. Ratzlaff struck out six and walked one in the no-hitter.
Moundridge moves to 2-2 on the year, with a 2-0 mark in the Heart of America League.
The Wildcats are on the road at Marion on Friday.
