James “Jim” Tobias, 93, passed away April 12, 2014, at Good Samaritan Center, Lyons.
He was born Feb. 28, 1921, in Saxman to Edward A. and Pearl Brothers Tobias. He was a lifelong Rice County resident and a retired farmer.
He graduated from Lyons High School in 1939 and served as a U. S. Navy fighter pilot during WWII.
He was a member of Faith Bible Church, Lyons.
James married Mary E. Weihe on Oct. 15, 1944, in Lyons. She preceded him in death on Nov. 11, 2013.
Survivors include a daughter, Jill and Wayne Nichols, Lyons; two sons, Larry Tobias of McPherson and Jerry and Carolyn Tobias of Omaha, Neb.; four grandchildren, Matthew Tobias, Melissa Tobias, Mandy Nichols and Melody Nichols; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mariella Swain of Lyons.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Raymond Tobias, Robert Tobias and Cecil Tobias; and a sister, Helen Long.
A celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Faith Bible Church, Lyons with Rev. Phil Green officiating.
Burial will be at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Lyons Municipal Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with family present from 5 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Good Samaritan Center, Lyons in care of the funeral home.
