  • The McPherson College men's basketball program would like to announce the signing of Aaron Bachura, Nick Lawson and Kyle Bowers.
The trio of Kansas players are the first signings for the Bulldogs this year.
Bachura joins the Bulldogs as a 6-0 guard that earned three letters at Council Grove High School for Coach Bruce Hula.
The incoming freshman averaged 17.4 points for the Braves, totaling 781 points in his high school career. The sharp-shooter tallied a career-high nine three-point buckets in a single game.
He was named All-Flint Hills League following the 2013 and 2014 seasons. He was on the Wichita Eagle's Third Team All-State Class 3A, Kansassports.com First Team and the Topeka Capital-Journal's Second Team.
He is a Kansas Honors Scholar, was a member of the National Honor Society and part of the Flint Hills League All-Academic Team each of his four years at Council Grove.
Bachura was also granted a spot on the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Academic All-State Team in 2014.
"Aaron had a tremendous career at Council Grove not only individually but as part of a great team," MC coach Tim Swartzendruber said. "We feel his perimeter shooting skills and great work ethic will make him a great fit for our program. Aaron is an outstanding student as well and certainly we are pleased to have him join our program."
Ed and Marita Bachura are the parents of Aaron who plans on studying accounting while attending McPherson College.
Lawson, a 6-1 shooting guard from Sylvan Grove, will look to continue his impressive career with the Bulldogs. Lawson is a four-time letter winner for head coach Jude Stecklein at Sylvan-Lucas Unified.
Lawson averaged over 21 points per game while shooting over 50 percent from downtown throughout his senior season. He was named first team all-league in both 2013 and 2014. Lawson also was honored as being on the 2014 All-Kansas Honorable Mention team.
He was on the honor roll all four years of high school and served as class president for the Mustangs in three of his four years.
"Nick played on a successful high school team and is a very versatile player," Swartzendruber said. "Nick's ability to play several positions plus his determination to succeed will make him a great player in our program. We are thrilled Nick selected McPherson College to continue his education and basketball career."
Nick is the son of Virgil and Jill Lawson and will be majoring in automotive restoration technology at MC.
Bowers is a 6-4 small forward hailing from Wichita and Wichita South High School. The former Titan joins McPherson after playing for Chuck Gunter.
"Kyle comes from a solid high school program and competed in the best high school league in Kansas,” Swartzendruber said. “Kyle is very skilled for a big man and we believe he has tremendous upside. We are excited to have someone from the City League in our program."
