  • It was exactly the way McPherson High School coach Danica Fitzmorris wanted to say good bye to her four seniors Tuesday night.
The Lady Bullpups broke out the bats early and often against El Dorado at Grant Sports Complex in an AVCTL Division III sweep of the Wildcats. MHS won game one in three innings 15-0 and then 16-1 in game two.
“That was a positive senior night,” Fitzmorris said. “We hit the heck out of the ball. We haven’t run-ruled anyone in the third inning yet, so that was exciting for [the Bullpups]. I just hope we didn’t use the bats up.”
MHS (12-4, 8-2 AVCTL Div. III) isn’t done this week, so Fitzmorris’ concerns are valid. The Pups will take part in their annual triangular Friday, as they travel to Salina to face Salina South and Great Bend.
The Bullpups, though, had much to celebrate Tuesday. The day started out with back-to-back, inside the park home runs from Chelsey Kerr and Jasmine Wann in the first inning and McPherson never looked back.
Kerr added another inside the park home run in the second, and MHS scored 12 runs between the second and third innings to get the three-inning run rule.
Madison Hoffman went the full game to get the win.
“She did a nice job,” Fitzmorris said of Hoffman. “Solid as usual. She gets the occassional hit, and that’s going to happen. We just played really well on defense behind her.”
Due to technical issues, stats for game one were unavailable.
Senior Marissa Axelson took the win in game two, going all four innings, giving up two hits and one unearned run. She struck out seven and walked one.
“I was really proud of her effort tonight,” Fitzmorris sid. “I believe it was her first complete game of the year, and on senior night, so that makes it all the better.”
Kerr continued her strong showing at the plate, as she went 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored. Kerr finished the series with six total RBIs.
Stephanie Farney went 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Brooke Schrag was 2-for-2 wtih two runs scored and three RBIs. Schrag and Hoffman both also had triples for the Bullpups.
Between games, the Bullpups recognized seniors Axelson, Nicole Cheek, Taylor Radke and Kiley Kerr. Kerr, who suffered a season-ending knee injury last month, was allowed to start for one pitch in game one in a nice moment to the senior leader.
The MHS JV was just as successful in their doubleheader Tuesday, though their opponent was Andale’s C-Team. Elle Schrag picked up the 13-10 win in game one against the Indians, while Grace Colaw had three RBIs on a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. Teagan Pacey went 4-for-4, with two RBIs and two runs scored for the Pups.
Page 2 of 2 - A six-run third inning highlighted a game two win for the JV Pups, as they downed Andale 8-4.
Colaw led with a 3-for-3 night, picking up two RBIs and a run scored. Ashlee May drove in two runners for the JV and picked up the win, going three innings. She gave up two runs, one earned, off one hit. She struck out three and walked one.
Amanada Linden went two innings in the circle for the Pups, giving up two runs on two hits, with a strike out and five walks.
Friday’s triangular begins at 1:30 p.m. at Salina South High School.
