McPherson County has started reconstruction of East Iron Horse Road form 14th Avenue to 15th Avenue and South Maxwell Street from the city limits to Iron Horse Road.
The McPherson County commission approved $23,460 for geogrid for the roads at it meeting Monday.
Geogrid is a plastic netting aimed at keeping the road rock bed in place. Asphalt is laid over the base. The geogrid promises to increase the life of the roadway and requires less base rock.
In addition, the commission approved $1,961 for biodegradable logs for erosion control on the project.
Work on the two roads is set to be completed this year.
In other business, the commission:
Appointed Stewart Tolle as chairman of Rural Fire District No. 6, which serves Roxbury.
Approved an ongoing contract for $792 per year with P1 Group of Wichita for chiller maintenance.
Approved an application for a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation for $185,000 for the replacement of reflective signs that would meet the current reflectivity standards in the southwest portion of the county.
Approved the purchase of sign blanks from Lowen Corporation at a cost of $5,850.
