  • Following a rain delay on Wednesday, the 10th ranked Bethany College men's tennis team faced seventh ranked Westmont College (Calif.) Thursday morning in the second round of the NAIA National Championships at the Mobile Tennis Center in Mobile, Ala.
    The Swedes defeated Westmont 5-3 to advance to the Quarterfinals Thursday evening, facing off against number two nationally ranked Auburn University at Montgomery.
    Bethany took an early 2-1 lead in the match, but Auburn Montgomery surged back to defeat the Swedes 5-2.
    Auburn Montgomery got on the board first as Miguel Grifol/Pinones-Haltenhoff topped Michiel Van Den Bogaert /Tucker Clary 8-0 in number three doubles.
    The Bethany duo of Manuel Raga/ Edgardo Tapia tied the match at one, winning number one doubles 8-4 against Francisco Mendieta/ Josh Reason.
    The Swedes grabbed a 2-1 lead when the number two doubles team of Mensford Owusu/Aaron Moses, Jr. beat  Othmane Lalami/Zinolabedine Jouini 9-8.
    The Warhawks' Grifol tied the match at two, winning number five singles over Amir Rahbar 6-0, 6-1.
    Auburn Montgomery extended their lead as Vincent Dubosclard won number three singles against Owusu 6-4, 6-1.
    Moses, Jr. fought to keep Bethany within striking distance, but fell in number six singles action versus Reason 7-5, 7-5.
    Lalami clinched the match for the Warhawks, winning number four singles against Van Den Bogaert 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.
    Raga, in number one singles, and Tapia, in the two slot, both had unfinished matches due to Auburn Montgomery clinching the victory. Raga was trailing 7-6, 0-1 as Tapia was battling 4-6, 6-3, 5-1.
    The Swedes end the season with an overall record of 21-3.
