  • Update: Name released of man shot by officer in McPherson County

  • The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Wednesday afternoon after a man charged a police officer.
    At 1 p.m. Wednesday, McPherson County 911 was advised of a hit-and-run collision in the intersection of Maxwell Street and Kansas Avenue. The suspect vehicle fled southbound on Maxwell.
    Dispatch received reports the vehicle had been abandoned in the 1900 block of South Maxwell Street and the occupant was in the area. Officers responded to the scene and located Timothy Ronald Lloyd. Lloyd charged an officer, and the officer fired a weapon in self-defense. Lloyd was transported to McPherson Hospital and subsequently was declared dead. Law enforcement officials did not say if the man was armed at the time.
    There were five officers on scene at the time of the shooting. The officer who fired the weapon has been placed on administrative leave with full pay pending the results of the investigation. The name of the officer was not released.
    Personnel from McPherson Fire Department, McPherson Sheriff's Office, Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Kansas Highway Patrol were on scene with McPherson police Wednesday afternoon.
    KBI will conduct the investigation and report to the county attorney and McPherson police.
    Residents were advised to stay out of the area of 15th Avenue between Iron Horse and Frontier while law enforcement officials were on scene.
