  • Mother Nature forced some reshuffling of the Hutchinson Next Level College Showcase Thursday, which was to have been the season openers for both the McPherson American Legion Post 24 15U and 17U teams.
With the soggy fields left behind from Thursday’s severe weather making play impossible at both Grant Sports Complex and Light Capital Diamond, the games slated for McPherson were moved, instead, to Buhler’s Prairie Hills Middle School.
The Post 24 17Us were only able to manage to squeeze in one of their two scheduled games Thursday, as they dropped a 10-0 game to 68’s Inside Sports.
The Cavaliers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the bottom of the second inning and Post 24 (1-0) just had no answer at the plate, as they managed four hits and six total baserunners.
Cody Starkel, Micah McCulley, Griffin Myers and Kolby Reed all had one hit, each, for Post 24. Starkel also had a stolen base in the top of the first inning.
Jacob Loecker took the loss on the mound, as he went two innings, giving up four runs, all earned, off three hits. He walked three and struck out one.
McDaniel worked three innings in relief, four runs, three earned, also off of three hits. He walked two and struck out one.
Caleb Schmidt finished out the game in the sixth inning, as he faced only four batters before the game was called due to the run-rule. He gave up two runs, one earned, off one hit with two walks.
The Post 24 15Us were slated to play the Sedgwick Storm Thursday afternoon, however, no score was available at press time.
The 17Us will be back in action today, playing a make-up game from Thursday against Rawlings Wichita Reds-Lienhard at 8:30 a.m., again at Buhler. Weather providing, they will play their night cap at Grant Sports Complex at 8:45 p.m. tonight against the Ark City Black Diamonds.
They also will be in action Saturday at least once, as they face the Dodge City Rangers at 10:15 a.m. at Grant.
The 15Us take the field first this afternoon at 1:45 p.m. against the Midwest Stix. They are also slated to play at 5:15 p.m. against Rawlings Wichita Reds-Biery. Both games are at Grant Sports Complex.
They will also play Saturday against the ABA 16 Prospects. Game time at Hutchinson’s Rice Park is at 1:45 p.m.
