City of Windom Mayor Brian Stolifer submitted his resignation to the Windom City Council Wednesday.
His resignation took effect immediately. Stolifer, whose current term ends in 2015, moved from Windom city limits so he no longer meets the eligibility requirements.
“It has been an honor and a privilege serving the residents of Windom. I am proud of the many things that have been accomplished during my time in office. I hope the city will continue to grow and prosper, and the council and staff continue to move the city forward.” Stolifer stated.
Stolifer was a Second Captain in the McPherson County Fire Department No. 3 in Windom. Stolifer trained new fire fighters and performed EMT Instructor Certification Training.
Stolifer was key in securing grants for the sewer lagoon and lift station project, and the new water transmission line from McPherson to Windom. The new water line should be complete by August.
City Council President, Janis Bernd, was sworn into office Wednesday. Stolifer said “I am confident that Janis Bernd is capable to fulfill the remaining term of office. Windom is lucky to have an official that is competent, loyal and committed to the best interests of the residents.” Bernd will be appointed the new city council president and make a recommendation for the empty council member seat at the July 9 council meeting.
