  • The McPherson High School varsity cheer squad, under the direction of head coach Megan Klassen, had great success at the UCA Cheer Camp June 17-20 at Butler Community College in El Dorado.
A total of 16 of the 19 MHS cheerleaders were in attendance. The Bullpups competed against 13 other squads throughout the week in cheer, dance, overall school spirit and leadership.
Senior Kylee Koerner was named a UCA All American Cheerleader after competing in a tough individual tryout against 70 other girls.
This qualifies her to participate in national and international UCA events such as the Thanksgiving Day Parade in Houston and the New Year’s Eve Parade in London, England.
Other members of the squad who tried out for the title were seniors Taylor Strange, Josie McClendon, Taylor Neufeldt and Sierra Werries, and sophomores Kellsie Corrigan and Claire Wiens.
McPherson received blue superior ribbons for every evaluation throughout the week.
These evaluations included a home routine they prepared for camp, school fight song, cheer, chant and “Extreme” routine.
They also received a 4th place trophy in their game time sideline cheer and chant, a “Superior Squad” trophy and an “Improved Squad” trophy.
The cheerleaders, as well as coach Klassen, felt extremely honored and proud to represent the school and community in such a positive way.
They look forward to supporting MHS activities during the upcoming 2014-2015 school year.
