  • Shoppers will be in for more than just bargains Friday in downtown McPherson during the 14th annual Shop the Night Away event from 5 to 10 p.m.
McPherson businesses have banded together to provide entertainment for the whole family at this year’s “It’s your move” themed event.
Participating businesses will feature prizes, decor and activities with board games in mind. There will be Mario Kart interactive Wii games played at the Plaza on the large screen television from 7 to 9 p.m. Free train rides from 6 to 8 p.m. will load up in the Peoples Bank and Trust parking lot. A showing of “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” will be at the McPherson Opera House at 6 p.m. A 40-foot inflatable moonwalk obstacle will be featured outside Little Caesar’s Pizza.
Circles of McPherson will have a spinning wheel game to play, walking tacos and beverages will be sold by the non-profit organization Women and Children Combating Cancer and ice cream will be sold by the Ulster Project, who will also be participating in face painting to raise money for their respective organizations.
“We try to involve the nonprofit organizations in the community,” said Ann Engel, director of McPherson Main Street. “The event gives them exposure and also allows them to raise money for their organizations.”
In addition to the different games that participating businesses have planned, there also will be prizes given away. There will be a $500 shopping spree to businesses that participated in Shop the Night Away. There also will be multiple $25 gift cards to various McPherson stores. There be a drawing for tickets to LegoLand in Kansas City, Missouri, provided by Sunflower Bank. Register for the drawing at participating locations. In order to win, participants must be present when their names are called at the Plaza at 9 p.m.
