  • Canton-Galva High School has been pressing forward with construction in hopes of wrapping up in time for school to start in the fall.
In addition to the library expansion, restrooms, hallways on the west side and upgrades to classrooms, the school is getting a new gym and weight room.
With the gym’s foyer walls looking pretty bare, the idea was hatched to paint murals.
Rick Anderson, the art teacher at Canton-Galva High School for his 10th year, tackled the job.
“I’ve never done anything at this scale before,” he explained. “The perspective is off, I think it looks good while I’m up on the wall, then I come down and step back, and its all wrong.”
Anderson is currently working on the side that will feature male athletes. There is a runner, and baseball, basketball and football players on the wall already, he is now working on the small details. On the other side, the wall will have female athletes, a runner, and basketball, volleyball and softball players.
“It’s been nice to contribute to all the upgrades here at the school,” said Anderson who hopes to be finished by July 20.
