  • The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that 1,290 athletic programs have been named 2013-14 NAIA Scholar-Teams.

  • The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that 1,290 athletic programs have been named 2013-14 NAIA Scholar-Teams.
    For the Bulldogs, the teams were men's soccer, men's tennis, softball, volleyball, women's basketball, women's cross country, women's indoor track & field, and women's tennis.
    Leading the way for the 'Dogs was volleyball with a team Grade Point Average of 3.51. For the men's sport teams, tennis tops the list with a 3.17 GPA.
    McPherson Programs who made the list are volleyball, 3.51; softball, 3.32; women's cross country, 3.26; women's basketball, 3.25; men's tennis, 3.17; women's indoor track and field, 3.15; women's tennis, 3.13; and men's soccer, 3.06.
    Bethany College was represented by seven Swedes teams: baseball, softball, men's golf, women's golf, men's outdoor track and field, women's outdoor track and field, and volleyball.
    Women's outdoor track and field led the way for the Swedes with a 3.63 team grade point average. Softball was second at 3.51, followed closely by volleyball at 3.50. Men's golf boasted a 3.42 grade point average, while women's golf was 3.34. The baseball team ended with a 3.33 grade point average as men's outdoor track and field had a 3.30.
    "I am tremendously proud that these teams exemplify the mission of our Department of Athletics and represent the true meaning of student-athlete," Dane Pavlovich, Bethany Dean of Athletics, said. "I am very proud of these teams and their accomplishments both in the classrooms and on the fields of competition."
    To be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, teams must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale as defined by the institution. The team grade point average includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.
