  • Bethany College baseball coach Andrew Bartman recently announced two additions to his roster.
JC Bird, of West Jordan, Utah, has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Bethany College for the 2014-2015 academic year.
Bird, a 6-foot-4 pitcher, first baseman and designated hitter, comes to Bethany from Dawson Community College.
This past season, Bird earned Academic All-Conference and 1st Team All-Conference honors. Prior to his time at Dawson, Bird attended Colorado Northwestern Community College.
Bird graduated from Copper Hills High School in West Jordan, Utah, where he was named first-team All-Region for baseball.
"JC is going to be looked upon as an impact guy right away for us," Bartman said. "Obviously, coming in from junior college, we feel like he has been prepared for the KCAC and we are excited to welcome him to our family. JC's best innings are ahead of him and I cannot wait to see it!"
Bird is the son of Jack and Karen Bird. He has a 3.6 college grade point average, and plans to major in physical health and wellness.
Also joining the Swedes is Austin Gordon of Emporia.
Gordon comes to Bethany from Emporia High School, where he started three years on the baseball team and two years on the football team.
Gordon earned honorable mention Centennial League honors in both football and baseball.
"We are very excited to welcome Austin to Swede Nation," Bartman said. "He is a very projectable athlete who we expect to physically blossom in our system over the next four years. I can't wait to see what the future has in store for Austin in our program."
Gordon is the son of Scott and Rhonda Gordon. He has a 3.5 grade point average, and plans to major in business.
