  • Central Christian College didn’t have to look very far to find their new softball coach.
The Tigers announced Thursday they were hiring assistant coach Tina Haga to take over the softball program from Chad Kerr, who left CCC after three years to coach Alderson Broaddus University in Philippi, West Virginia.
“We are really excited about coach Haga assuming these responsibilities,” Chris Smith, Central Christian College Chief Student Affairs Officer, said in a statement from CCC. “She is highly regarded within the softball community and with the community of McPherson. I know that the ladies are excited and trust that together they will put an excellent product on the field to represent CCC and The Lord.”
Haga had joined Central as an assistant to Kerr this past season after eight years as the head coach of at Hesston High School. She also has coached the traveling Kansas Renegades in the summer.
She takes over a program that went 26-104 under Kerr, with steady improvement shown over his three years. Haga looks to build on what Kerr has built.
“I'm thrilled to have this opportunity to lead this great group of young ladies,” Haga said. “I have huge shoes to fill but am very excited and ready to hit the ground running."
Haga has already begun her duties with Central and is actively recruiting for spring 2015. She can be reached at tina.haga@centralchristian.edu.
