  • The McPherson 16U Lady Express had a rough road Thursday in the USSSA Fast Pitch World Series in Topeka.
The Express dropped both games Thursday in pool play, falling 9-3 to the Nebraska Adam Outlaws and then 6-5 to the Missouri Midwest Nationals and were facing a long road at the beginning of Friday’s bracket play.
McPherson responded by blasting apart their first opponents, the Missouri Tornados, 10-0 behind a perfect game from Elle Schrag.
Schrag then led McPherson (11-8-1)  past the Missouri Red Hawks 6-4.
The Express rounded out the day with a 7-3 win over the Oklahoma Gametime behind the arm of Makayla Luce, who gave up six hits and no walks.
McPherson will play in the winner’s bracket quarterfinals today at 12:30 p.m.
Schrag faced 14 batters before the run-rule was put into effect in the fourth inning against the Tornados. She struck out six without giving up a hit or a walk.
Brooke Schrag and Gracy Feil both went 2-for-2 for McPherson at the plate.
Against Missouri, Elle Schrag gave up four runs off seven hits, but walked none.
    Feil had three RBIs.
