  • The Canton-Galva Board of Education voted to publish the district's 2014-2015 budget during its meeting July 14.
Bill Seidl, superintendent, said the mill levy will go down 2.9 mills compared to last year. This means a savings of about $34 in property taxes on a $100,000 home.
There will be a public hearing on the budget at 6:15 p.m. Aug. 12 at the district office, before the board's regular meeting. Those with questions or comments may attend the meeting or contact Seidl at 620-628-4901.
The board approved the purchase of new playground equipment. The new equipment will be placed at the district's elementary school in Galva. It will cost about $50,000 and will be paid for through parent-teacher organization and capital outlay funds.
The board will have a retreat Monday to discuss district goals and recommended policy changes from the Kansas Association of School Boards. The association makes such recommendations from time to time to clarify policies or follow changes in state and federal laws.
The board approved a donation of $26.25 from Hospira and approved a bid of $19,272 from Superior Fencing for the elementary school in Galva.
A five-year professional development plan was also approved.
