  • Kansas Wesleyan was very nearly the unanimous first-place choice in the KCAC 2014 Preseason Volleyball Coaches’ Poll.
In fact, the Coyotes were only kept from being unanimous by one vote, most likely their own.
The 2013 regular season co-champs and the tournament runners-up received seven first-place votes and 63 total votes to rule the league in the preseason voting.
Ottawa University, who won the 2013 tournament, had the only other first-place vote and were seeded fourth with 43 total votes.
McPherson College, coming off a 19-18 season that saw them go 9-9 in the KCAC, was picked sixth. Bethany College will enter the season as the No. 8 seed.
“I am looking forward to seeing the improvements our team has made since last season," Mac coach Susan Barton said. “Our conference continues to get better and continues to improve as a whole with outside competition.”
The Bulldogs will have only three starters from last year back, which includes All-KCAC Presason Team pick Cortlyne Huppe. Also returning from the starting rotation are Taylor Johnson and Phoebe Barton. Libero Emily Warner also returns.
Barton does have a few newcomers that she’s looking to make impacts for the Bulldogs. Those include middle hitter Taryn Lee, a transfer from Colby Community College, and outside hitter Megan McKinnon from Temple Community College (Texas). Also expected to contribute right away is freshman Lindsay Moss.
All of the new recruits should help boost the Bulldog attack.
“Our defense was really good [in 2013],” Barton said on www.kcacsports.com, “but our attacking needed to get a lot better. I think we’ve added a few girls who can helpus do that, so that’s really a focus for us right now.”
