  • Moundridge volleyball will have a new identity in 2014.
They just aren’t sure what that is as yet.
Moundridge head coach Kelsi Chisholm graduated Brooke Holloway, MacKenzie Suderman and Hope Wedel from last year’s squad. Replacing them will be a challenge after last year’s 26-16 record, which saw the Wildcats finish 6-3 in the Heart of America League and make the Class 2A State Volleyball tournament.
“For a long time, those graduating seniors have been the ‘face’ of our program,” Chisholm said. “So, finding our identity as a team (identifying our strengths) and pinpointing who can lead our team through pressure situations will be vital to our success.”
Much like last year, Chisholm does have a trio of talented seniors who are expected to provide that leadership on the court. Michelle Schrag will serve as an outside hitter and defensive specialist. She was on the All-HOA First Team in 2013 and made the Al-State Academic Athlete list. Schrag led the Wildcats in passer rating (2.3) and digs (294). She also had a 96 percent serve percentage.
Middle and outside hitter Anna Stucky led the team in blocks with 54 and also picked up 226 digs. Elizabeth Ratzlaff returns as setter, where she had 395 assists and picked up a 96 good sets percentage.
“Elizabeth will be...looking to add another dimension to her game by vying for a position on the front row,” Chisholm said.
Also back from last year’s state tournament team are junior middle hitter Rylie Dyck and sophomore defensive specialist Chelsey Knight.
“Both Rylie Dyck and Chelsey Knight hope to build off of the progress they made last year and take larger roles on offense and defense,” Chisholm said.
The Wildcats open their season Tuesday in a triangular at Conway Springs that also includes Hesston.
