Punxsutawney Phil facts:

- Punxsutawney Phil made his first prognostication in 1887.

- Groundhogs only live about 10 years in captivity, but the legend says that the current Punxsutawney Phil is the same one who began predicting in 1887 thanks to a magic Groundhog Elixir.

- The Punxsutawney, Pa., Groundhog Day ceremony takes place in Gobbler's Knob, which is about two miles from Punxsutawney.

- Groundhog Day lore says that if Phil sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter. If he doesn’t see his shadow, there will be an early spring.

- The famous Phil gained ever more notoriety thanks to the 1993 film “Groundhog Day,” starring Bill Murray. (Fun fact: The movie was not filmed in Punxsutawney – the setting actually was Woodstock, Ill.)

- Phil has made 115 predictions and has been right only 39 percent of the time.

- The official website of Phil is http://www.groundhog.org. The site will have a live broadcast of the Groundhog Day ceremony.
