The McPherson County Historical Society will meet Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at the Municipal Center, 400 East Kansas Avenue at 2 p.m.
The program will be first-time author and former warden Robert D. Hannigan, Sr., who will offer a firsthand account of the progression of corrections in his book, “A Forty Year Journey in Corrections.”
Hannigan, now retired, reflects on the hilarious, serious, and at times dangerous events he encountered throughout his career at the Kansas State Industrial Reformatory (now Hutchinson Correctional Facility) and the Kansas State Honor Camps.
Although offering insite into the challenges and hardships of working in corrections, Hannigan is quick to point out the personal rewards of assisting inmates through fair and reasonable treatment and by developing programs that would benefit them upon release.
Wildly original, “A Forty Year Journey in Corrections” appeals to anyone interested in what goes on behind bars and all are welcome to attend this meeting.
