Nellie Catron will celebrate her 102nd birthday on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2010. She was born in a farmhouse near Cashion, Okla. on March 17, 1908, to George and Annie Collett. On March 9, 1928, she was married to Carl Catron in Britton, Okla.
From 1948 to 1965, Nellie was head cook, managing foodservice at Central Christian College. After that she was in charge of the Tiger Den, becoming famous for her homemade doughnuts and cinnamon rolls.
She was well loved and appreciated by hundreds of students and staff. Their home was always open to students - for a home-cooked meal, an evening of games or homemade ice cream. Occasionally a student lived in their home in order to attend college.
