Chili for a cause
CANTON — Friends and family of Julie (Unruh) Toon are hosting a chili supper fundraiser from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 21 at the Canton Fairgrounds.
Julie is battling a rare form of cancer, so proceeds from the event will go toward her expenses.
Cost for the meal is by free-will donation and attendees can also participate in a raffle. If you are unable to attend but still wish to make a donation, checks made out to the "Julie Toon Fund" may be mailed to State Bank of Canton, P.O. Box 66 Canton, KS 67428. Julie is the daughter of Bob and Mary Unruh of Canton.
Hear a tenor
HILLSBORO — Tabor Arts is pleased to host Scott Wichael for a guest recital at 7 p.m. on Jan. 17 in the Tabor College Chapel.
The performance is the latest installment of the Tabor College Recital Series which offers Tabor and Hillsboro community members an opportunity to attend free performing arts events on campus.
A tenor, Wichael is known for his expressive voice and versatile stage presence.
His repertoire ranges from Mozart to Floyd and includes roles such as Sanco Panza in “Man of La Mancha” and The Witch in “Hansel and Gretel.” Wichael has performed at the Lyric Opera in Kansas City, the Kansas City Metro Opera, the Asheville Lyric Opera, the Tulsa Opera and the Des Moines Metro Opera as well as in festivals throughout the United States.
Catch some cartoons
The McPherson Public Library will host Saturday Morning Cartoons on Jan. 14. The program starts at 10 a.m. and will last approximately an hour. This month, the library will feature three episodes of Sofia the First.
The event is free and is open to all ages. The public is welcome to wear their pajamas and bring along their pillows and stuffed animals.
