The McPherson Bullpups varsity baseball team went on the road Monday and swept a doubleheader against Rose Hill.

ROSE HILL – The McPherson Bullpups varsity baseball team went on the road Monday and swept a doubleheader against Rose Hill, winning 8-1 in game one and 12-1 in game two. McPherson never trailed in either game and with the sweep improve to 4-3 on the season.

Dylan Werries led the way for Mac in game one, at the plate and on the mound, picking up three hits while pitching five strong innings to pick up the win. Werries struck out five Rocket batters. Casen Hoover added three hits while Gunnar Reiss picked up two hits and two RBI. Trey Hanken finished the game on the hill for Mac, picking up four strikeouts in two innings of work.

Mikey Saverino and Zane Myers pounded out four hits a piece while combining for three RBI to lead Mac to a six inning, run rule victory in game two. Jack Reifschneider pitched five strong innings for the Bullpups, striking out 10 Rockets as he cruised to victory on the mound. Raine Reitsma pitched one inning of relief to close out the game, picking up one strikeout.

McPherson returns home on Friday for a doubleheader as they host Salina South. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Grant Sports Complex.
