The McPherson County Historical Society will meet at 2 p.m. May 6 at the McPherson Museum, 1111 E. Kansas Ave. in McPherson.

The program will be given by Eric Dudley, instructor in the department of history at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas.

Dudley wrote his dissertaion on “The Memory and Memorialization of James Birdseye McPherson.”

A presentation will be given on the service of Gen. James Birdseye McPherson during the Civil War, with a majority of the talk focusing on the general’s monument in McPherson. It was unveiled in a day-long ceremony on July 4, 1917.
